Sacraments at Christ the King
In the Roman Catholic Church the central avenue of participating in the Christian Mystery is by means of the efficacious signs of grace called sacraments, which Jesus instituted and entrusted to his apostles and their successors. These seven sacraments heal our fallenness and raise us to an elevated life of Christian service and holiness.

Baptism
Holy Baptism is the basis of whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism, we are freed from sin and reborn as children of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water and the Word.

Holy Communion
The Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist is the “source and summit of the Christian life” Ccc, 1324. This sacrament takes place within the Mass, the mystery of the passion, death, and resurrection of Christ is re-presented in the unbloody sacrifice of the altar. The Catholic Church professes that in Holy communion the body, blood, soul, and divinity of the glorified and risen Christ is substantially present. We ask that only “properly disposed” Catholics receive Holy Communion, meaning they are in a state of grace, having been reconciled with the Lord through Baptism and/or sacramental reconciliation.

Confirmation
Confirmation completes the grace of Baptism and with it is one of the three sacraments of Christian initiation. It strengthens the faithful to be powerful in their witness to God’s love in both word and deed.
“Like Baptism which it completes, Confirmation is given only once, for it, too, imprints on the soul an indelible spiritual mark, the ‘character,’ which is the sign that Jesus Christ has marked a Christian with the seal of his Spirit by clothing him with power from on high so that he may be his witness” CCC, 1304.
The sacrament of Confirmation is ordinarily administered by a bishop or a priest who has the appropriate delegation, by means of laying on of hands and anointing with chrism, a blessed oil that serves to signify the spread of the “aroma of Christ” (2 Cor. 2:15).
Generally, at Christ the King, Catholics who have received their sacraments according to the usual sequence beginning with baptism as an infant are confirmed in the 8th grade.
Reconciliation
“Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed,” James 5:16.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is one of two sacraments of healing and is reserved to the ministry of the priesthood, as they are the ordinary mode of binding and loosing sins. The priest, who as an authorized representative of Christ in his ministry of reconciliation, hears a penitent’s confession of sins, assigns an appropriate penance, and absolves the penitent of the guilt of sin, extending the peace of Christ to the troubled conscience and renewing the state of grace and reconciling us to God and his Church. While Confession is at time intimidating for many, Confession is seen as a place of victory and joy as one rejoins full union with Christ and is freed from sin! It is common practice to seek confession, particularly during the seasons of advent and lent.

Marriage
The Sacrament of Marriage is a visible sign of God’s love for the church and is a lasting commitment of a man and a woman to a lifelong partnership based on love and faith. In this Sacrament, the man and the woman administer the sacrament to each other as the priest or deacon stand as a witness on behalf of the church.

Holy Orders
“Holy Orders is the sacrament through which the mission entrusted by Christ to his apostles continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time” CCC, 1536.
All Catholic men who have received the Sacrament of Baptism ought to prayerful discern whether Christ is calling Him to partake in His Priesthood. Those ordained to the Priesthood take vows of Celibacy, Obedience, and Simplicity of Life; of which, the Deaconate shares in a special way as they are called to a life of service.

Anointing of the Sick
The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is one of two sacraments of healing alongside Reconciliation. It is instituted to strengthen Christians in their conformity to the suffering Christ. When the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is given, the hoped-for effect is that, if it be God's will, the person be physically healed of illness. But even if there is no physical healing, the primary effect of the Sacrament is a spiritual healing by which the sick person receives the Holy Spirit's gift of peace and courage to deal with the difficulties that accompany serious illness or the frailty of old age – in conformity with the Crucified.
The Rite of Anointing tells us there is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death to receive the Sacrament – only a careful judgment about the serious nature of the illness is sufficient. Any Catholic receiving this sacrament may do so more than once, on any such occasion, such as grave illnesses or amidst significant operations.

Funerals
One of the most difficult tasks facing a mourning family is planning the Funeral Vigil and Funeral Mass. In order to ensure that the wishes of the deceased are followed, Christ the King Parish has designed a form to document the wishes of the deceased – prior to death.
Please download and complete (to the best of your ability) the funeral pre-planning form, and then set an appointment with someone in the Rectory to discuss your wishes. We can help you select your readings and walk you through the entire process.
Additionally, your plan will be saved, and you will have the availability to make revisions if you wish.
